Jane Dobson and the Lighthouse team treat children, adolescents and their families where family conflict and separation are the major contributors to the mental health issues.
Jane is a clinical psychologist and along with the other Lighthouse psychologists she has a focus on therapies that concentrate on the treatment of children, adolescents and their families. Jane has been working in private practice for over 10 years and during this time, she has gravitated towards working in a clinical setting with families where there is unresolved conflict due to parental separation.
Family separation can be an extremely painful and stressful time, not only for parents but also for children. During this emotional time children and adolescents often need help to make sense of what is happening around them. Parental separation can be complex, requiring an impartial practitioner who is able to recognise and think sensitively about distress in everyone touched by the separation, and who will treat the family accordingly.
At the core of Jane’s skills is the ability to quickly establish a warm, friendly, empathic relationship with her clients.
Jane uses a method called Child Inclusive Practice (CIP). CIP enables a child’s voice to be brought to the mediation process. It can also assist the child to repair and recover from family conflict. He or she is given a safe and independent opportunity to be heard, and their voice can be used as part of the parent negotiation process.
Jane is a registered Clinical Child Psychologist in Sydney with the Australian Psychology Society. She is also a registered member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association. Jane has completed the world-renowned Professor Jennifer McIntosh “Child Inclusive Mediation and Counselling” training, and completed the “Certified Family Trauma Professional” course.
At the core of Jane’s skills is the ability to quickly establish a warm, friendly, empathic relationship with her clients. This strong connection forms the foundation for all her work.
